Care for the jewellery.
Keep its meaning.

Inherited a collection, or have a treasured piece you would like to wear again? We help you understand your options for keeping, repairing, resizing and refurbishing existing jewellery.

Find your starting point

By appointment at 9 Perak Road, 3rd Floor, Singapore. Begin with a few photographs and the questions you have.

Two ways to begin

A single repair or a whole collection?

Repair, resize or refurbish a piece.

For a ring that no longer fits, a worn setting or jewellery that needs attention, send photographs and describe the problem. We will advise on inspection and a quotation for the proposed work.

Ask about jewellery care

Routine care enquiries follow a separate quotation process. You do not need to book the S$250 collection review just to ask about one repair or resize. Any assessment charge will be explained before you agree.

Understand an inherited collection.

If you have several pieces and are unsure where to start, book a private review to discuss selected items, their visible condition and practical next steps.

From Kunming’s work with families

Sometimes the next chapter
begins with what is already there.

From a jewellery box to everyday life.

A friend had inherited her parents’ jewellery but felt unsure about the pieces and whom to ask. Kunming helped her explore the gemstones, styles and condition, and the possibilities for cleaning, resizing, modest adjustments or redesign.

With a clearer view of her options, she began wearing jewellery that had been left in the box. Remaking every piece was not necessary.

Thinking about the next generation.

A family preparing for a wedding wanted to share a grandmother’s jewellery. Alongside preliminary observations about the pieces, Kunming discussed each recipient’s colours, personality and preferences.

The collection was organised into three groups to help the family consider what to pass on. This was practical guidance, not a formal valuation or a determination of equal financial shares.

A private advisory appointment

Inherited Jewellery Review

S$250

For up to 60 minutes · agreed scope and selected pieces

A thoughtful starting point when you want to understand what you have and decide what deserves attention.

Request my collection review

Your appointment is confirmed when our team replies. Share only the personal information you feel comfortable sharing.

What is included

  • A discussion of your aims and the selected pieces.
  • Preliminary observations within the agreed scope.
  • Guidance on preservation, wearability and possible next steps.
  • Brief notes on the observations and advice provided.

What needs a separate scope

The fee does not include repairs, resizing, refurbishment, new designs, comprehensive testing, origin or treatment confirmation, definitive diamond grading, provenance authentication or formal valuation. Large collections, rare stones and potentially high-value pieces may need a separate quotation.

A simple-looking ring can hold a rare gemstone. A visual review cannot establish Kashmir origin, an unheated Burmese ruby claim or a D-colour Flawless diamond grade. Existing reports and any need for further testing will be discussed; some questions may remain unresolved.

Any additional work and charges are explained for your approval before proceeding.

From enquiry to an agreed next step

Know what happens next.

  1. Send photographs and your main question. Include the approximate number of pieces and any existing gem reports.
  2. Agree the right appointment. We distinguish a care quotation from a broader collection review and explain any proposed fee.
  3. Consider the options. The condition of the materials and setting guides what is suitable. Some pieces are best left unchanged.
  4. Approve any work separately. You can proceed, seek further information or take time to decide.

Gemological knowledge, personal attention.

Tay Kunming and Loke Hui Ying hold the Gem-A Diploma in Gemmology and are HRD Antwerp Certified Diamond Graders. Their knowledge helps frame the right questions about coloured gemstones, jade, pearls and diamonds.

Preliminary advice is distinct from a laboratory report. Where formal identification or valuation is needed, a separate assignment with Far East Gemological Laboratory can be discussed.

Before you visit

Your questions, answered.

Do I need the S$250 review to resize one ring?

No. Send a photograph and explain the fit issue through our jewellery care enquiry. We will advise on inspection, suitability and a quotation. Any assessment fee is explained before you agree.

Can every piece be repaired or resized?

Suitability depends on the metal, gemstones, setting, condition and previous work. Some changes could weaken a piece or expose a gemstone to damage. We assess the proposed work before confirming what we can offer.

How many pieces can the review cover?

There is no fixed promise to assess an unlimited collection within an hour. Send an approximate item count and photographs so we can agree priorities. Complex pieces or larger collections may require more time or a separate scope.

Will the review confirm origin, treatment or value?

No. Preliminary observations are not comprehensive gem identification or a formal valuation. Origin, treatment, diamond grading and value may require existing reports, specialist examination or a separately commissioned laboratory assignment.

Can you help us decide what to pass to our children?

We can discuss wearability, care and family preferences. We do not determine ownership, inheritance rights or legally binding divisions. If you need monetary comparisons, discuss a separate formal valuation.

What if I want the gemstones made into a new design?

We can direct you to The King’s Bespoke for a design conversation. Reusing materials depends on their condition and the proposed setting. No work begins until the scope, limitations and quotation have been agreed.

What should I bring?

Bring only the pieces agreed for your appointment, any existing gem reports, and your questions. You may bring a family member; let us know when enquiring. You do not need to explain the circumstances of a bereavement.
