Recently, together with my wife Loke Huiying and my father Tay Thye Sun, we gave some comments on an article by ChannelNewsAsia Lifestyle (https://cnalifestyle.channelnewsasia.com/style/why-coloured-gemstones-are-so-popular-right-now-10843716).
That's the serious version. I would like to share with you 3 funny reasons why coloured gemstones are so popular now!
1. Coloured gemstones are so popular now all because of.... Many people believe that gemstones have special powers.
From increasing your wealth to increasing your abilities on the bed. The number of beliefs about what gemstones can do for you is amazing! This is one of the reasons that make the gemstone business so fun!
I have an uncle who would a dyed magnesite from a flea market for a few hundred dollars. He believe that it was the source of his sudden increased wealth. He told me, his friend was so astounded, he wanted to borrow the stone and try it for himself! So his friend borrowed the stone from him for some time and almost never returned him! The friend even offered a hundred thousand ringgit to buy the stone but my uncle refused.
Anyway, right after I heard this story, my uncle invited me to take a look at his "magical stone", it was chucked in 1 corner of his bed room.
It look similar to this photo, it was dyed to make it look like turquoise (image credit: https://www.mindat.org/forum.php?read,55,179631,275446)
