From 27 to 30 October 2017, Far East Gems & Jewellery joined The Gem Museum at the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair to present Shine Bright, an exhibition celebrating courage and creativity during breast cancer awareness month.
A collaboration with a social purpose
The original exhibition brought together The Gem Museum, Parkway Cancer Centre and BloomBack. Gemstone art on three lingerie sets honoured women facing adversity. The 2017 campaign included a mammogram initiative supported by sales of BloomBack’s pink flower pots; this is a historical account, not a current offer.
Pink Bloom
A flower-inspired design used pink and red gems. Our exhibition record listed one ruby of 0.49 ct, 27 tourmalines totalling 21.47 ct and 22 diamonds totalling 12.02 ct.
Blossoming Strength
An armour-inspired design used jade and champagne-coloured diamonds to express strength. Jade is known for toughness, which is different from resistance to scratching. The record listed four jade pieces and 36 diamonds totalling 14.25 ct, with matching jade-decorated shoes.
Glowing Gem
A dark display room used ultraviolet light to demonstrate fluorescence in selected sapphires, spinels and pearls. Fluorescence occurs while a material is excited by suitable light; this does not mean every gem keeps glowing after the light is removed.
The record listed ten pearls weighing 10.51 g, 19 spinels totalling 21.79 ct, 29 sapphires totalling 22.32 ct and six diamonds totalling 1.16 ct.
